class rules

  1. Kindly arrive at least 10 minutes before class time (with exception of Ashtanga Mysore practice). Classroom will be locked 1 minute before class time. Strictly no admission once class starts.

  2. Please be sure to consult with the teacher before the class starts if you are on medication, recovering from injury or having any health conditions.

  3. No casual conversation and usage of cellphones in any manners allowed in the practice space.

  1. Since the Manduka BlackPRO® mats we provide are shared by others, for sanitary reasons, it is COMPULSORY to use a proper mat towel during your practice. If you don't have one, you can rent a Manduka® eQua Towel Mat from us for RM5 a day.

  2. Kindly do not leave classroom until class is dismissed after Sukhasana / Savasana (Resting Pose).

  1. All our classes are beginners / first-timers friendly.
     
  2. Pregnant mothers are welcome to all of our classes with exception of ASANA CLINIC & YOGA BOOTCAMP.
     
  3. (kids welcome) classes are practice sessions where parents are welcome to bring their baby / toddler / preschooler to class. (DISCLAIMER: We require non-contact thermometer scan before classtime. We reserve our right to deny entrance to mommies and babies who have high temperature and who have just been vaccinated with live virus vaccines within 14 days).
     

 
holidays & class cancellations:  

  1. No classes held on Selangor public holidays.
     
  2. Every year, Upward will be closed for:
    - 1 week for Chinese New Year and 1 week for Hari Raya Puasa
    - approximately 4 weeks in June and 4 weeks in December.

  3. We reserve the right to cancel our classes on TWO HOURS NOTICE effective with our announcement on Facebook. We appreciate you checking our FB Page (facebook.com/upwardYOGA) before heading to your preferred class.

BREATHE, STRETCH, HEAL (75 mins) is Upward's signature class. It is a slower-paced Hatha-Vinyasa class curated for those who wish to discover the healing benefits of yoga by learning the fundamentals of breathing & stretching correctly to prevent and heal injuries & illnesses. Breathe, believe and realize that you are being healed with the power of optimism and positive visualizations. Highly recommended for complete beginners, veterans and athletes. Expecting mothers and experienced practitioners are welcome and adhoc easier / more challenging variations will be offered.

YOGA BOOTCAMP (60 mins) is a faster-paced class designed for new and seasoned mothers (kindly allow at least 8 weeks if you underwent C-section) to help speed up toning and strengthening target areas especially stomach, arms, buttocks and legs. Class incorporates movement of repetitions from dynamic yoga and Pilates. Although this class is tailored for moms - dads, single ladies and guys are welcome too! And parents may bring your child(ren) to this class (we provide play area and sanitized toys) so no more excuses to not workout! Complete beginners welcome.

PRENATAL YOGA (90 mins) is recommended for expecting mothers (with or without yoga background). Yoga is one of the rare workouts that is safe and encouraged to be practiced when you are pregnant. Yoga's organic properties of energizing, opening and relaxing are known to be more than helpful to endure the ten-months marathon of pregnancy peacefully and to cross the finishing line as natural and enjoyable as possible. ASHTANGA BASICS (75 mins) is a workshop-type class comprising Ashtanga sun salutations, Ashtanga Standing Poses, 10 to 15 poses from Ashtanga Primary Series, backbends and Ashtanga Closing Sequence. Tips to 'jump back', 'jump through' and 'half / full vinyasa' will be offered to help link your poses together and to retain your body's warmth throughout the practice. Q&A session will be offered at the end of the class for general enquiries on the practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Complete beginners and expecting mothers welcome.

ASANA CLINIC (90 minutes) is a once-a-month workshop type class that guides you on how to execute complex-looking poses particularly Instagram famous inversions and arms balances! We will announce on our Facebook at the end of the month on our chosen / by-demand asanas to be postmortem during our Asana Clinic. This class will help you understand underlying principals of building strength (most of the time, it's all mental strength!) and finding confidence to uncover the strongest version of us we can be. While we don't promote shortcut nor endorse magic tricks to standing on your elbows, explore how essential alignments and positive thinking assist gracefully standing on your shoulders, head, forearms and hands. Pre-requisite: One year of regular practice OR at least 10 other classes at Upward.

ASHTANGA MYSORE (when Upward hosts visiting Authorized Ashtanga teacher) is the traditional and best way to learn the true practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Rather than following the generalized instructions of a teacher like in a guided or led class, one practices at his own pace based on the sequenced given by the teacher or developed over their years of practice whilst the teacher gives personalized guidance and adjustments to each student where necessary, similar like a one-to-one session. Session could last from 45 minutes to 120 minutes depending on the given sequence and practice experience. You may arrive anytime in between 6am to 8am.

Mats, Blocks & Belts

  1. No outside mats required as we offer complimentary usage of BlackPRO Mat, cork blocks, belts and bolsters from Manduka®

  2. For hygiene purpose, we sell Manduka® eQua Towel Mat to provide better grip and a clean layer in between you and your mat. Also available for daily rental (RM5).

  3. We are open for retail 30 minutes before our first class starts, in between our first and second class and within 30 minutes after our last class finishes. Cash terms only.
